What has happened to the Gwales.com website?
Online book sales have moved from Gwales.com to ffolio.cymru to create a one-stop shop for books from Wales in all formats. You can now buy books, e-books and audiobooks from ffolio.cymru. You can support independent bookshops with your purchase.
Both Gwales.com and ffolio.cymru are owned and managed by the Books Council of Wales. Gwales.com closed on 2 March 2026, and customers are now redirected to
ffolio.cymru. Orders made on Gwales.com up until 2 March 2026 will not be
affected.
I was a Gwales.com customer. Will my Gwales account be transferred to ffolio.cymru?
No, your Gwales account details will not be transferred to ffolio.cymru You will need to create a new ffolio account as this is a new website.
I used to receive regular emails from Gwales.com about books from Wales. How do I receive offers and news on books from Wales?
You can now register instead for our ffolio e-newsletter, which we will send out regularly. The Gwales newsletter has been discontinued.
Format Types Explained
Epub
Epub is an E-book format. You will need an epub reader to download this e-book type. Many are available, but we suggest Adobe Digital Editions.
PDF
E-book in PDF format. It will be available to download from your account profile.
MP3
Audiobook format. You will need the Glassboxx app to download and listen to audiobooks purchased from this website.
Print Orders
Can I spend Book Tokens on the ffolio website?
Book tokens can only be redeemed at bookshops. You can find a local bookshop here: Bookshops of Wales | Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru
Can I pre-order books that have not yet been published?
You can register to receive an email to let you know when the books have been
published but we don’t yet offer pre-ordering of titles.
How can I support my local bookshop with my purchase?
You can select a bookshop to support at the checkout – simply select your chosen bookshop from the dropdown list.
Do you ship overseas?
Yes we can ship orders internationally. The shipping carriage charges are calculated at checkout.
Please note some countries may charge additional customs charges.
When will I receive my books?
UK Ffolio orders (under 2kg) are distributed via Second Class Royal Mail Service; large orders are sent via courier service. Royal Mail second class parcels are usually delivered in 3-5 business days, but can take up to 14 days.
What do I do if my order hasn’t arrived?
Drop us a line using the contact form, stating your order number and we’ll look into it for you.
Ebook Orders
Where can I see my ebook
Your ebook should appear in your account under "Your Digital Downloads"
If there isn’t a download button within minutes of your order, this may indicate a problem with your order and you should contact us on ffolio@books.wales
The e-books listed on this website are EPUB or PDF. You can download the e-book to a computer / mobile phone / laptop / i-pad, but it is not downloadable in Kindle format, which is only available through a purchase made on the Amazon website.
We recommend you use Adobe Digital Editions 4 to read these e-books on computers running Windows and Mac OS X. If you have not installed Adobe Digital Editions 4 on your machine go to the Adobe Digital Editions website.
If you have ordered a PDF book, but it does not open, the version of Adobe on your computer may be outdated and in need of updating.
How to read an Epub Ebook
Opening an Epub ebook requires an epub reader. We recommend Adobe Digital Editions, but there are many different apps available from the App store.
How do I download Adobe Digital Editions, or update Adobe Reader?
Go to the Adobe Digital Editions website and select the most suitable version of the system we use.
In which format does the e-book come?
When buying the book the format is clearly stated. Currently we offer e-pub and PDF.
How do I download an ebook to Kindle?
Kindle generally only supports MOBI books that can be purchased only through Amazon.
Kindle can usually transfer PDF files to readable files, but you must email the book to your Kindle address to enable you to do this.
There are ways to use software like Caliber for you to read an EPUB book on your Kindle, but Ffolio does not recommend that you do anything that is not consistent with your Kindle license.
How do I download an ebook for Kobo?
Go to the folder where your e book (the .acsm file) is stored. Double click on the. acsm file. The book will open in Adobe Digital Editions.
Click the Library at the top of the screen.
Click All Items under the Bookshelves menu.
Click on your new book and drag it to the Kobo eReader listed on the left under Devices.
How do I download an e-book to iPad / iPhone?
Go to your Ffolio account and open the books you bought; On the device you want to use, click download; If you have a reader loaded on your iPad / iPhone (usually iTunes), it should open automatically, but if it doesn’t open, you’ll need to transfer the book from where you downloaded the file to into i-Tunes.
How do I download an e-book to Tablet Android?
The easiest way is to open your Ffolio account on the tablet and download directly.
Open Google Play Apps and go to the book you have downloaded.
If you do not have an internet connection on the tablet, you will not be able to open it.
Can I download an e-book to the computer / laptop?
Yes. In the various ways above, what is important is that you access your Ffolio account and ensure that you have a program that can read e-books on the device you are using before downloading.
How will the e-book reach me? Will you be sending me a link?
No. You will need to go in to your account profile on the device you wish to download the e-book on to and click on "download". The e-book will be under "your digital downloads".
If the download button doesn't appear within a few minutes of ordering your e-book, this may indicate a problem, if so, please contact us via ffolio@llyfrau.wales
Downloaded my e-book – how long is it on my device?
Your e-book is on the device forever. You own the book and so there are no restrictions on ownership time.
Can I save my e-book as a PDF?
If the book is already in PDF format, of course it can be saved as an e-book. There are EPUB to PDF file conversion tools (such as Zamzar or PDF2Go), but Ffolio is not responsible for the quality of the file once it has been converted. If there are options available, try to buy in the right format so you don’t have to convert it.
Can I read my e-book offline?
Yes. Once downloaded, you do not need an internet connection.
However, if you haven't downloaded your e-book from your account, you're unable to read the e-book.
You have to download it from your Ffolio account to be able to read the e-book.

Audiobook Orders
How do I access my Audiobook
We work with Glassboxx to bring you your Audiobooks. Simply download their app and enter your e-mail address to listen to your audiobooks.
Can I listen to the Audiobook without downloading the Glassboxx app?
Glassboxx do offer a browser version, where you can log in using your e-mail to listen to the audiobooks.
However you can only listen to your audiobook through the Glassboxx app or their online reader.
Can I listen to my audiobook offline?
Yes. Once downloaded, you do not need an internet connection.
