Near the mid-point of Offa’s Dyke and Offa’s Dyke Path, Knighton is also the starting point for Glyndwr’s Way National Trail. There are two other long distance routes within easy distance of Knighton – the Jack Mytton Way (further along the Teme Valley, in Shropshire) and the Herefordshire Trail, which runs to the east and south-east of the town. \nExploring Knighton itself is a pleasure, making use of quiet streets, lanes and paths to find a mixture of excellent views and attractive old style cottages. A network of footpaths, bridleways, green lanes and other unsurfaced tracks can be found throughout the area, and other local routes pass the Spaceguard Centre (observatory for ‘near Earth objects’ with an interesting array of telescopes and other astronomical equipment and displays), a number of attractive local pools, oak and mixed woodland and wooded dingles, a large prehistoric hillfort and the impressive Holloway Rocks above nearby Stowe. \nThe Heart of Wales Railway Line also passes through the town and can be used to access linear walks to and from the adjacent stations at Knucklas, with its impressive 13 arch railway viaduct, and Bucknell, an attractive village of half-timbered and thatched dwellings in the Redlake valley. \nKnighton is the base for the Offa’s Dyke Association which operates the Offa’s Dyke Heritage Centre within the town.
