He later had a very successful career as the literature director of the Welsh Arts Council, lecturer, literary journalist, poet, editor and obituarist.\n\tHe learnt Welsh as an adult and during the 1960s campaigned on behalf of Plaid Cymru and was one of those who took part in the famous sit-in on Trefechan Bridge, Aberystwyth, in February 1963, at Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg’s historic first protest.\n\tHis autobiography also recounts time spent living in Brittany, and among the Mormons in Utah, USA.\n\tMeic Stephens is the author, translator or editor of around 170 books, including the Writers of Wales series and both the Oxford and New Companion to the Literature of Wales. He writes obituaries of eminent Welsh people for The Independent newspaper.
